Track Miter Relief

There is often a weld bead where the sidewall meets the floor of a compartment. In this case, the builder is faced with two choices: either grind down the weld bead or modify the door side frame to fit. Neither option is appealing. Grinding down this bead requires additional labor and may sacrifice the strength of the weld. As a result, AMDOR offers an option where our team will create a consistent mitered relief to accommodate the weld bead.

Pre-Punched Slotted Holes

Pre-punched slotted holes in a side frame provide two advantages. The truck body may be prepped for door mounting prior to the arrival of the roll-up doors dramatically reducing installation times while delivering increased production consistency. In the field damaged side frames may be replaced in a matter of minutes knowing that the replacements will include slots that correspond to original mounting locations on the body. Slots are located within the center channel of the side frames at standardized intervals.

Side Frames

AMDOR currently offers three versions of our side frames. Our standard or conventional side frames is designed to frame the opening while providing ½” of exterior body wrap to reduce water ingression while providing a solid registration point.

We also offer a wide flange exterior side frame which provides 0.75” of exterior body wrap. This is particularly useful in applications where you have two adjacent doors where the side frames may be butted up against each other without the need to paint, finish, or apply graphics to a vertical sliver of space between neighboring compartments.

Our third standard is our recessed frame is identical except that this exterior flange has been removed. This allows the side frames to be recessed inward from the exterior of the body structure or allows for applications where exterior cladding needs to tuck up next to the side frames versus underneath.

Over the years we have also partnered with a number of builders to produce proprietary side frames to suit specific build characteristics. Following an engineering review and sign off process AMDOR will run and stock a custom side frame which is proprietary to your firm. AMDOR also offers a variety of side frame preparations to decrease installation time and improve field serviceability. All AMDOR side frames include standard pre-punched slotted holes. We also offer a variety of additional options including track bottom miters to clear body weld beads, notching for step down compartments and pre-installation of strikers. Additional info on each of these options is included on this site. Contact your local Territory Manager to dial in your specific custom requirements.

Top Gutters

Top gutters are a key component of the roll-up door’s framing structure. They prevent water from running into the compartment or dripping onto the operator during use. The top gutter also incorporates a retainer for a top gutter seal designed to mate with a top landing seal when the door is in the closed and secure position. AMDOR offers two top gutter models. Our standard is a 2” gutter with seal. We also offer an optional 6” Extended Top Gutter which may be used in place of a traditional header and can accommodate top gutter drops ranging from 1” to 5”. The Extended 6” top gutter provides additional flexibility and may save the builder time and labor during construction. Both models are available in an optional continuous top gutter configuration where one top gutter may be used above a series of adjacent doors.

Mechanical Door Ajar Switch

Over the years many customers have had negative experiences with competing brands of magnetic door ajar switch systems. In response to those requesting a non-magnetic door ajar switch solution AMDOR developed a sealed mechanical switch system. Using a push-button trigger within the striker, this mechanical system detects when the door has been left open and sends an alert to the driver. The primary benefit of this system is that the switch may only be activated by positive engagement of the lift bar. The military-grade switch is hermetically sealed for protection against water and debris. Each system is tested one million times under load, and in conjunction with Luma Bar® Integral lights, for NFPA compliance. This mechanical switch is designed to be utilized as a trigger to the ground with a conventional automotive relay handling power distribution. The mechanical door ajar system is suitable for both new and retrofit applications.

  • Mounting Position: The push-button is located within the striker and operates as an on/off switch. When utilized in conjunction with a relay, the switch will control compartment lights and provide a signal to indicate an unlatched door.
  • Trigger Switch: Features a military-grade push-button that is protected from ingression of water and debris
  • Key Technical Specifications: The AMDOR NFPA compliant door ajar system has been tested to 1-million cycles under load with the Luma Bar Integral compartment lighting system
  • Suitable for OEM or Retrofit applications: Kit includes (2) AMDOR Strikers, (1) featuring the Mechanical Door Ajar Switch. Ships complete with rivets when not pre-installed

Door Protector

Drip shields are designed to solve three issues. With today's loaded apparatus, improperly stowed equipment can interfere with door operation. When deploying or stowing equipment near the top of compartments it is very easy to damage the roll-up door coil. Finally, the majority of water that ends up in compartments is the result of water running/dripping off of the exterior of the door when it coils up inside the compartment.

The AMDOR drip shield attaches to a simple mounting bracket tucked up underneath the roll-up door mounting plates. It is adjustable to provide protection for a variety of coil diameters while maximizing compartment space savings. The drip shield includes spring-loaded locking pins which allow shields to be removed for service, inspection, or periodic cleaning in seconds. Available with or without drainage tubes. Suitable for new or retrofit applications. One price regardless of door size.

Anodized Aluminum Door Finish

AMDOR’s standard finish is a durable long-lasting .0004 architectural grade anodized aluminum finish. We pride ourselves on only using domestic suppliers for all of our extruded profiles. For those designing apparatus for highly abusive applications, we also offer an upgraded brushed anodized finish. The brush lines will reduce the appearance of scratches caused by incidental contact with the door curtain’s exterior surface. A brushed finish is available on the door curtain slats only.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

AMDOR roll-up doors are the ideal solution for numerous applications including emergency vehicles, tow trucks, wreckers, rotators, specialty vehicles, van bodies, storage lockers, marine storage, and have even been used in architectural applications. Compared to swing-style doors, a roll-up door provides a safer work environment, especially for vehicles often used on the side of a road. A roll-up door provides security coupled with the ability to access compartment contents while maintaining visibility.

For details on our quality inspection process, please click here.

There are a number of things that differentiate AMDOR from other suppliers:

  • A driven ball-and-socket slat design offers the strongest curtain in the industry.
  • A stainless steel lift bar and balancer shaft eliminate corrosion and provide a rigid solution that will not bow or flex.
  • Dual-durometer door slat seals: one portion acts as a retainer while a second leg compresses between the aluminum slats, reducing operating noise and virtually eliminating water penetration.
  • Standard bottom flange cut-outs allow easier access with gloved hands.
  • The flat, smooth interior surface eliminates equipment hang-ups.
  • Slats are individually painted prior to assembly to ensure full coverage, including the ball section of the hinge, avoiding bare spots.
  • AMDOR lift bar strikers feature a proprietary design that supports the underside of the lift bar — improved sealing, reduced bottom-seal wear, and virtually eliminated false door-ajar signals.
  • A removable snap-lock end shoe allows quick, easy replacement of individual slats.
  • Side frames accept and protect a Luma Bar™ Integral compartment light (available in standard or custom lengths, with adjustable aiming and a consistent 120° beam pattern, plus an auto-resettable fuse).

Yes, quite often vehicles are retrofitted to accept a roll-up door. There may be modifications required to the door openings (to ensure they are square), and the AMDOR order form outlines all of the dimensions required. A 6″ top gutter is also available to easily provide the body header necessary to accommodate a roll-up door coil. Please contact your local AMDOR representative or our customer service department to discuss your retrofit project.

The AMDOR slat and balancer design represent the tightest coil in the industry. Based upon door height and corresponding coil diameter, headers as small as 1.5″ are possible. In virtually any scenario AMDOR offers the largest interior compartment space in the roll-up door industry. When designing your vehicle, feel free to contact your local AMDOR representative to discuss how we can work together to maximize compartment space.

AMDOR offers door curtains with anodized aluminum, brushed anodized aluminum, and custom paint including metallic. More information is available in the Options section of the website.

No roll-up door is 100% waterproof. The AMDOR system includes dual-durometer inter-slat seals, dual-leg side seals, a dual top-gutter-to-top-land seal, and a dual-leg bottom seal. A good installation will ensure correct seal interfaces, minimizing water ingression when the door is closed. In reality, most water that ends up in compartments is the result of water dripping off the exterior surface of the door when it coils up inside the enclosure. In response, AMDOR offers a drip shield with or without drainage tubes.

No, we currently do not offer an option that would automatically open and close the doors.

The coil size is directly correlated to the height of the door used. When designing your vehicle, feel free to contact your local AMDOR® representative to review dimensions. There is also a chart available in the Downloads area of our website, or click here.

AMDOR uses a 4-stage automotive wet paint process and can produce virtually any color. For more information about AMDOR door finishes, please click here.

The side frames and top gutter can be painted upon request as an additional option over and above paint application for the curtain. In most instances customers prefer that framing materials remain anodized due to the abuse seen during deployment and stowage of equipment. Anodized framing also acts as a color break to visually differentiate the compartment doors from the body of the vehicle. Due to the significant abrasion and impact seen by sill plates, AMDOR will not paint this component.

Yes, AMDOR offers a drip shield with or without drainage tubes.

Due to the industry-leading rigidity of the AMDOR curtain, an idler tube is not a requirement. However, doors 52″ wide or wider will benefit from smoother operation and improved top-gutter-to-curtain sealing when using an idler tube.

The door slat directly correlates to curtain strength as well as coil diameter. The AMDOR driven ball-and-socket acts as a structural hinge. The 1″ slat results in the strongest door in the industry combined with the tightest coil — the best of both worlds.

The smooth, flat interior surface of the AMDOR curtain helps alleviate the potential of freight/equipment hang-ups. The AMDOR curtain also has the strongest diaphragm rating in the industry, meaning reduced bowing and flexing. Simply leaning against an AMDOR curtain versus a competitive brand will demonstrate the superior quality of the AMDOR design.

AMDOR offers two styles of door-ajar switch:

  • A military-grade mechanical button-style, which may only be activated when the door lift bar is securely engaged with the striker.
  • A magnetic switching system (positive or negative ground available), with an infinitely adjustable Reed switch module on the side frame; the magnetic signal is supplied by a magnet located within a specially marked red end shoe or the bottom panel.

Yes. AMDOR offers a variety of popular manual key-lock codes. We also offer the AMLOK power locking system, which includes the manual lock system providing an override feature in the event of a power failure.

Clean with mild soap and water as you would clean any vehicle, including regular cleaning of the track. Once clean and dry, you may apply a light film of dry silicone along the inside leg of the side seals that meet the door curtain. Do not use any other lubricants on the door or inside the track, as these attract dirt and debris. Lock cylinders should be exercised regularly and lubricated using a manufacturer-approved process. Any damaged or worn seals should be replaced immediately. Over time the balancer may be adjusted as needed, so long as neutral balance is maintained over-tightening the spring assembly will result in a door that is difficult to close and will reduce spring service life.

There is an online order / quote form, or you can reach our customer service team at 1-877-845-3816.

Our slats are very easy to change due to the snap-lock design. All we require for replacement is the serial number located on the interior surface of the bottom panel. It is also possible to temporarily move slats that have suffered aesthetic damage, simply swap slats from the top of the door curtain (top slats are hidden from view) with the damaged slats in the field until replacements arrive.
